Enjoy the cooking and dinning with ‘SUNplace’ solar cooker

A solar cooker is a device that uses sunlight for energy. They use no fuel and cost nothing to run. They also help slow deforestation and desertification. Another benefit to solar cooking is that unlike cooking with fire, solar cookers don't pollute the air. SUNplace is the latest innovation in solar cookers, which allows group cooking, sharing and fun, powered solely solar energy.

Designers Francesca Lanzavecchia and Hunn Wai have designed SUNplace, for cooking and sharing, using the most basic, self-sufficient, clean and inexhaustible solar energy. A table on which you can cook without emissions.

The SUNplace was introduced at the Milano Expo 2015 last week, where it definitely attracted quite a bit of attention. It is an entire cooking set, with a table and chairs. It is equipped with a fresnel lens, which concentrates the sun rays onto a cast iron grill, and it comes with all the necessary gloves and special glasses, so that everyone can cook safely.

The station requires the full involvement of all its users; this team-work will also promote interpersonal relationships with conviviality. Historically the hearth was the center of the tribe and family; SUNplace wants to recover the ritual of the banquet as a shared moment. SUNplace may well become a new core for living outside, an evolution of the ancient “fireplace” that warms entertains and feeds.
