In this day and age, the first brands that come to mind when we decide we need a new phone are Samsung and Apple. Yes, iPhones and Galaxies are quite popular and deservedly so, but have you ever stopped to think that there must be other maybe even better and more affordable options?

Take a look at this list of smartphones from China that you might not have heard of.

Huawei P20

Okay, you probably heard of this one; after all, Huawei is the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The P20 comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Huawei P20

The front camera offers 24MP and the dual back one 12 and 20MP. Its 3400mAh battery charges quite quickly, 60% in 30 minutes. Just be aware that it is one of the more expensive models.

Honor 9

The Honor 9 offers a 5.15-inch Full HD display. In addition, it has 64GB of built-in storage and 4GB of RAM along with a Kirin 960 octa-core processor that has four cores at 2.4 GHz and another four at 1.8GHz. Similar to the P20, it has a dual back camera, with 12 and 20MP, capable of recording 4K videos, but the front one offers only 8MP.

LeEco LeMax 2

This company also produces electric cars and smart TVs, and their phones are up to par with Apple’s. The LeMax 2 is a phablet that gives you a 5.7-inch display and a camera of 21MP. Snapdragon 820 and 6GB of RAM make it very powerful, and there is ample storage space with 128GB. Just like the iPhone, it no longer has the 3.5mm headphone jack, which might be a good or a bad thing, depending on your feelings towards this.

Konka R8A

If you are looking for a more affordable phone, Konka R8A might be the right choice for you. Its sleek and ergonomic design makes it one of the slimmest products in its price range. It offers a 5-inch display along with an 8MP rear camera. It has a non-removable Li-Ion 2200mAh battery and 16GB of internal storage. The downside might be that it only has 1GB of RAM, but depending on your needs, that might be enough.

OnePlus 5T

OnePlus might be another brand you have already heard of. This device is available in two versions – 6GB RAM/64GB ROM and 8GB RAM/128GB ROM. The main camera is 16MP and the secondary 20, while the front-facing one offers 16MP.

Its 6.01-inch display is bezel-less which looks quite attractive but is also very slippery. There is no wireless charging and it is not waterproof, but it’s quite worthy of its price.

Gionee A1 Plus

For unashamed selfie addicts, this phone is one of the best options on the market. With a 20MP front-facing camera and a 4000mAh battery, you can keep going all day long. 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, as well as a 6-inch display, are a great addition. The software might let you down a bit, though.

Ulefone Armor 2

This beast is made of metal and plastic. Its rugged appearance makes it resistant to water, dust, and pressure, as well as to heat and cold. You might think that its endurance means that it is not as good on the inside, but you are mistaken. The Armor 2 offers a whopping 6GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM which is expandable to 256GB. It has a front fingerprint ID, a 5-inch display and 16 and 13MP waterproof cameras. It is great for outdoor adventures and travels, but its slightly robust look might be a turnoff for some people.

Doogee Shoot 1

The Doogee Shoot 1 is another phone from the lower range of prices. It offers you a dual camera with 13 and 8 MP and a 5.5-inch screen. The phone has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Similar to the Gionee, the software is a bit awkward and slow.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

Xiaomi is getting closer to its Western counterparts by implementing wireless charging, better performance and dual cameras, all that at a better price. Just like Apple and the LeEco, it got rid of the headphone jack.

That is probably one of the downsides as the mono speaker does not make up for it. However, the design and performance are admirable, with its ceramic, mirror-finish case and 6GB of RAM. However, the 5.99-inch display could be improved.

CoolPad Cool S1

CoolPad Cool S1 offers similar performance to the OnePlus 3T. It has 6GB RAM/64GB ROM, a 5.5-inch screen, and a 16MP camera. If you can’t afford a OnePlus phone, this should be your next option.

We are aware that the ‘Made in China’ sign on products makes you wary of their quality, but China has proven itself to be quite a competitor when it comes to the creation of smartphones. You can’t go wrong with any of these models.
